“Pathways Home” Certification Training
September 10 @ 8:30 am - September 14 @ 4:30 pm
The South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition is pleased to be offering a certification training that will support practitioners in developing and delivering homebuyer education courses to their communities.
Participants of the “Pathways Home” Certification Training will learn how to deliver a comprehensive homebuyer education program designed to help educate prospective Native homebuyers on how to become successful homeowners. The curriculum is specifically tailored for Native American communities.
Participants will also learn the most effective methods to help potential homebuyers determine what is best for them; to build a new home or to buy an existing one. Other areas covered include:
- Understanding the mortgage loan process
- How to prepare a family budget
- How to improve credit profiles
- How to avoid the pitfalls of predatory lending
- Foreclosure prevention strategies
- How the family can maintain the home and their personal finances after the purchase
Training instructors – Barbara Roloff and Cielo Gibson – specialize in homebuyer education and include culturally relevant teaching techniques in the classroom.
The training will provide valuable opportunities for peer sharing and discussions, and time for participants to enhance and strengthen their new and existing financial and homebuyer education programs.
This training will provide participants with the information they need to pass the “Pathways Home” trainer certification test. The certification test will be offered as part of this training. Passing this test is a requirement for certification.
Please note that lunch, snacks, and coffee will be provided during the training. A continental breakfast will be available at the hotel. Dinner will be “on your own” each day.
This week-long training is free of charge, but registration is required by August 27, 2018. Register today to reserve your spot! Space is limited to the first 25 people who register!
